Advanced Chinese Language Proficiency
Since moving to China in 2009, I have been immersed in the language and culture, which has allowed me to develop a high level of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. My language skills have been honed through daily interactions and professional experiences, as well as formal instruction at several Chinese language institutes. I have passed Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi level 3, and I am studying for level 4. I maintain proficiency by speaking to my wife, in-laws and friends who are single-language Chinese speakers.
Learning Chinese has given me a deep appreciation for the importance of language in understanding culture and communication. It has also enhanced my ability to work in diverse environments and connect with people from different backgrounds. Based on this past experience I am also studying Vietnamese in Duolingo daily to better understand my students and colleagues in Vietnam.
